Amsterdam * Chicago * Worcester

Amsterdam, The Netherlands

While I'd wanted to visit Amsterdam since the early 70s, it was the late 90s, and at someone else's suggestion, when I did. A week of A truly extreme weather from a bone-chilling cold to a swelteringly heat showed many edges to this city. I look forward to more time in Amsterdam.

Arabesque, (Chicago Art Institute), 2001 Lake Michigan, 2001 Untitled Abstract, near Lake Michigan

Chicago, Illinois

These were taken on my one and only trip to Chicago in 2001. Coming out of the subway from O'Hare, I found myself in an icy February wind. When I learned I was on State Street, the song Chicago came to mind and to my lips and kept me going the long blocks to my hotel.

Though not easily recognizable as such, the images here are of or nearby known attractions. They are good examples of my desire to bring viewers to a way of seeing with a different eye.

Elite Billiards Worcester Market
Dreamscape Old Brick Spring

Worcester, Massachusetts

I was raised in this mid-sized city, where the downtown buildings were granite and other native stone, some with marble facings and some with intricate designs, built during the mid-1800s. It also had its share of huge Victorian structures and multi-family houses called "three deckers." The many factories made with brick were also built with amazing attention to detail.

When I began photographing again with the panoramic camera, Worcester's familiar buildings from my childhood were a focal point for my resurfacing. While I do not visit as often as when my parents were alive, photographing the flavor of my East Coast beginnings is a priority when I do.
